According to a research study conducted by PCT magazine, the demand for rodent management services has increased over the past several years and it is predicted to continue to spike.
51% of the pest management professionals surveyed indicated rodent management has become a more significant portion of their business versus two years ago (46%).
What’s causing the surge in rodent management service requests? Many factors are at play. Milder winter weather in many portions of the country and devastating natural disasters such as hurricanes, flooding and wildfires, which disturb rodent burrows and send them in search of new habitats, have contributed to rodent population growth.
In the areas we service, especially urban regions like Seattle and Portland, the construction boom has fueled the rodent activity as their living spaces are being disturbed and they hunt for new harborage in nearby commercial structures.
Commercial properties, especially those involved with food processing, storage and transportation, are traditionally prime targets for rodents including mice, and Norway and roof rats.
Food facilities are required by law to have written pest management programs in place to prevent rodents and other pests from spreading harmful bacteria including E. coli and salmonella to processed and unprocessed food and food preparation or production machinery.
Protecting these facilities – and the food products they produce or store – requires a multi-tiered approach including sanitation, exclusion, correcting structural deficiencies, and targeted baiting and trapping.
